One day a man was strolling through a park and his name was curious. He walked for a bit and he eventually sat down on a park bench and started to think to himself. He was just an ordinary man and enjoyed reading his Bible which he happened to have with him that day. As he sat there browsing through the pages, he thought to himself; why so many chapters and verses? Most ordinary folks with busy lives wont make time to sit down and read the entire Bible ! Then he thought, If God wanted to get a simple message across to people, what would that be ? He sat for a while and then had an idea;
Wouldn't it be wonderful to get an interview with The Lord himself.
Curious moved into a comfortable position, closed his eyes and lay his Bible on his stomach clasping it with both hands. He fell into the deep sleep and his spirit was taken up to the heavens. When he arrived, he found himself at the pearly gates. Suddenly they were wide open, and an angel came forward and said; ‘come with me’ and he was escorted to a small chamber. Apart from one table and two chairs in the centre of the room, the chamber was completely nondescript and had no furnishings whatsoever.
The angel invited curious to sit and sat down opposite him. There was a long silence then the angel said; please ask your questions ? Curious started to speak but no words came out of his mouth. The angel smiled and said; please take your time.
Curious then said; forgive me, but who are you ? I am an Angel of the Lord and have brought you here to answer the questions which were playing on your mind. The Father heard your prayer and sent me to help you for you’re understanding. The angel smiled and said; 'I have the authority to speak on his behalf'. Curious knew in his heart the angel was surely from God. He took a deep breath and organised his thoughts and said;
'What is the most important and central message that God has for mankind ? What chapter and verse would have the greatest impact on his people ? And what can we say that will penetrate deep in the hearts of lost souls’?
The angel looked back at curious and said; I think you may already know the answer to some of these questions, however let me explain for the sake of clarity: The Lord dearly loves his people and his greatest desire is to save and adopt as many souls as possible into his Kingdom. Since the fall of Adam, man has been cursed with sin but nothing impure can ever come before the Lord. Christ the Messiah and saviour is returning soon to rule the earth and judge all of mankind. The Father desires that we come to him through Christ and if we do, he will justify us and sanctify us that we may live throughout eternity in his glorious presence. The time is close and his holy people are being prepared and we need to be ready for the second coming.
Curious nodded and said; What chapter and verse would then have the most impact?
The angel replied; those that feed off the word will discover wisdom and higher love which is a testament to their faith. The word is frozen in time and the bible is alive on the earth and I can tell you that he holds these words above the stars of Heaven.
A popular chapter among Gods people is John 3:16. ' For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.’ Notice the content: The father gave his only son (Jesus Christ) who suffered on a cross as a sacrifice for our redemption. So God allowed his very own son to suffer unimaginable pain as a sacrifice so that his people could be purchased and forgiven for their sins, guaranteeing they to go to heaven. This demonstrates Gods love for every soul. The second part is also of great significance. If they choose God they will have everlasting life, which means everlasting peace and love in his presence. However if they choose the opposite, then they will perish as it is also written. The Father demands that we have a strong faith and put our trust completely in him and if we do so, he will draw us closer through the Holy Spirit and set his lamp before our feet and promises never to leave our side.
Curious then replied: 'Even if we say such things to them, it makes little difference as there are so many doubters and unbelievers, so many are stuck in false religions and many others that seem to have a superficial understanding of Gods true nature'.
'There are millions of souls in the world who are full of love and have an abundance of kindness and charity in their lives but they don't know who the Lord is, and don't feel the need for his holiness and have no desire whatsoever to be in a relationship with him. They don't know anything about salvation or sanctification and if you say these things to them they just as soon switch off. These are good people and I know the Lord wants to know them but I know that without a union with Christ they will surely perish in their sins'. So what about my last question ? What can we say to penetrate deep into the hearts of the lost?
The angel replied: Its hard for us to accept that there's a multitude of living souls that live in ignorance and darkness, and therefore you should pray and keep on praying for the lost. The simple biblical message so often misunderstood in the world today is that no amount of good works or deeds can save any man or woman. It is written that the good deeds of men are like dirty linen to the Lord (Isaiah 64:6) and this calls for a deeper wisdom and understanding. It matters not how religious a man is or how much love they have in their hearts, or how charitable and virtuous they are, no-one can see God or hope to enter his kingdom unless they have accepted Christ as their saviour and repented for their sins. God has determined that mans own efforts to earn their salvation will always fall short and to this end he put a great plan in place, a 'new covenant’. He used his very own son as a substitute in our place. In the eyes of God, this is the fulfillment of the scriptures and the only sacrifice that he will accept. So if anyone accepts Christ, this will please the Father and he will grant them salvation and sanctify and justify them. This is his free gift to us, not because we are deserving but by his grace alone.
Good works prior to salvation are of no value to the Lord, instead the good works and fruit that flow from men will be a result of their salvation.
The act of expiation is what Christ did for mankind as he acted as a substitute for us, which resulted in the act of propitiation which appeased God and turns his wrath away from men. On good Friday, the Father transferred the sins of mankind onto Jesus that he may justify us, therefore giving us a certainty in our hearts of eternal life in heaven.
It is written that the foolishness of the Lord is greater than the wisdom of men (Cor 3:19) and so it is that the mysteries of God have always been hidden from unbelievers and those of an atheistic nature. The worldly man loves his life and the things of the world. He believes only in himself and tones down the moral standards of God to suit himself and so he lives under a veil. They don't believe in the Bible as to them it's unreasonable and foolishness and the idea of a crucified God seems almost laughable and so the reality of the Bible becomes unattainable. They have no fear of the Lord and therefore they are left spiritually bankrupt. I can tell you that if any one of those unbelievers were granted access to these mysteries and could see their own judgement and their final fate, they would fall to their knees and beg for forgiveness and praise God forevermore. So blessed are those who have faith.
The souls trapped in world religion is where a great battle between good and evil takes place. Deception is at its greatest in this area and for centuries has caused chaos and conflict with mankind. Millions of souls who love the Lord attend churches on a weekly basis but unfortunately some follow the traditions of men and they see their own church as the final authority in their lives. No worldly church is the final authority, the only true church of God is the body of Christ.These truths can be disturbing to some people, and sometimes it's easier to convict or convince an evil man before those that are blinded by their theology and their own perception of themselves.
But we must remember the things that please the Father: Believe in the Bible, his inerrant and sovereign word, believe in the gospel, otherwise known as the good news, and affirm the deity of Christ as our Lord and saviour and ye shall be saved. If a soul prays with repentance in their heart and believes in these things, The Lord will surely write a new chapter in the book of life and their names will be sealed in heaven for all eternity.
Curious felt himself drift for a moment and his spirit was returned from the heavens.
He opened his eyes and he sat up and looked around at the Lords creation on earth, and he looked up to the heavens and just smiled with peace and joy in his heart.
As he set off for home, he decided to change his name from curious to certain.
